Joe Biden Appears With Head Bandage After Undergoing Cancer Surgery

Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, recently underwent Mohs surgery to remove skin cancer, his spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Beast. The procedure involves carefully removing thin layers of skin until no traces of cancer remain.

Speculation about his health grew after Biden was seen over Labor Day weekend in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, with a noticeable scar stretching from his forehead toward the back of his head. The evening before, he appeared at a local ice cream shop wearing a baseball cap to conceal the area. Just days earlier, on August 22, he had been photographed with a bandage covering the same spot.

This incident represents the latest health challenge for Biden, who is also battling aggressive prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. The diagnosis was revealed in May, after doctors discovered a nodule on his prostate.

Biden has a long history of skin cancer treatment. In 2023, while still in office, he underwent surgery to remove basal cell carcinoma from his chest — one of the most common forms of skin cancer.

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., born November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is an American politician who served as the 46th president of the United States from 2021 to 2025. His career in politics spans more than five decades, beginning with his election to the U.S. Senate from Delaware in 1972 at just 29 years old, making him one of the youngest senators in U.S. history.

During his 36 years in the Senate, Biden chaired both the Judiciary and Foreign Relations Committees, taking a leading role in legislation such as the Violence Against Women Act.

In 2008, he was chosen as Barack Obama’s running mate and went on to serve two terms as vice president from 2009 to 2017. In the 2020 election, Biden defeated incumbent President Donald Trump, becoming the oldest person ever elected to the presidency at age 78. His administration prioritized tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, driving economic recovery, investing in infrastructure, and advancing climate change initiatives.

Biden’s presidency also faced significant challenges, including the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, surging inflation, and ongoing public concern about his age and cognitive health. In July 2024, following mounting pressure and a widely criticized debate performance, he announced he would not seek re-election, instead endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

Despite enduring deep personal tragedies — the loss of his first wife and daughter in a car accident and the death of his son Beau to brain cancer — Biden’s career has been defined by resilience, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to public service.
